CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT
At this time, please light your candle and sing along with us to the hymns printed below…

Silent Night! Holy Night!
Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright
‘Round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night! Holy night!
Son of God, love’s pure light,
Radiant beams from thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.

O Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light.
the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love,
O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth,
and praises sing to God the King, and peace to all on earth.

Go, Tell It on the Mountain
Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;
go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.
While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night,
behold, throughout the heavens there shone a holy light.
Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;
go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.
Down in a lowly manger the humble Christ was born,
and God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn.
Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;
go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.

Now We Wait
Now we wait!! This pandemic needs to end. A vaccine is in development, but how long do we have to wait? When will the promised vaccine be fulfilled? What do we do while we wait?

Advent is about waiting and hoping for better days ahead. God has promised us a new kingdom with a perfect King. His promise will be fulfilled.
As we begin the Advent season, we should remember that Advent is a time for spiritual preparation so that we may open our hearts to the true concern of the season. Too often we find ourselves caught up in the more commercial aspects of the Christmas season – the shopping, the parties, Santa Claus, good food! We squeeze in a little time for our faith. But this year offers us the prospect to change our priorities. We have been provided more opportunity to demonstrate our faith - while we wait.

In I Corinthians 1:3-9, Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth reminded them of the mercy, grace and comforting peace of God, which they received through Jesus. Although they had become re-involved with the immoral world, the great salvation provided by God was proof of His faithfulness. It is a GIFT – not earned through any human acts or abilities. Despite all wrong thinking, arguing, and complaining, God remains faithful to a church that has been called into being.

We, also, should remember that the ultimate example of faithfulness is demonstrated by God’s gift of His son, Jesus Christ. The foundation and life of the church is this promised gift from our Father. Once made, God’s promises are never broken. When we get involved in the worldly ways that allow us to stray from a Christian lifestyle, a faithful God stays with us. His faithfulness continues to be our strength.
In the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, the last verse says:

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide.
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine and ten thousand beside.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.

As we go through this season, let’s turn to our faithful Father for strength as we wait for Christ’s return.

In Christ,
Ron Spain
