Early in 2017, our congregation partnered with DurhamCares as we sought to understand what it would mean for us to truly minister to our community.  As we fleshed out ideas and answers, it became clear that we needed a plan to begin to move from ideas to actions.  Thus was born the “Rooted” initiative, designed to engage our congregation at various levels so that we are all working together to grow into the church God is calling and preparing us to be.  To read the Rooted document and/or updates on the work being done as part of the Rooted initiative, click here.

A central part of the Rooted initiative is a 4-month worship emphasis on discipleship.  What does it mean to be a disciple, and how can we as Temple Baptist Church invite, equip, and commission men, women, and children throughout our neighborhood and Durham and the world to live as disciples of Christ?  We will be reflecting on these questions as one body during our worship services starting September 3 and running through the end of 2017.  Our reflections on these questions will be guided by the gospel of Matthew, the gospel that some consider a kind of text book for new believers in its earliest uses in the church.  Below are the passages that we will be focusing on each week.  You are invited to read, reflect and pray through these passages both in preparation for each Sunday as well as after each Sunday to continue to invite the Spirit of God to teach and form us all.
